Health Benefits – Pole Dancing Creates Toned, Lean Muscle

When it comes to building muscle, many women tend to shy away from lifting weights at the gym because they are not looking for the large, bulky look which comes with traditional weight lifting workouts. Women want to be fit and strong, but want long, lean and toned physiques instead.
Pole dancing has been proven to be an excellent way to create this sort of flexible and lithe body, with muscles which are “cut” and toned rather than bulked up. Why is this? It is because instead of lifting increasingly heavy weights at higher repetitions, pole dancers are throwing their body weight up, down and around the pole. Many of the pole-dancing moves require dancers to hold themselves up with their hands, ankles and even the backs of their knees. Their body weight is usually unbalanced by the momentum of their spins and it is this type of movement which stretches and works the muscles through their entire range of motion.
Rather than repeatedly dead-lifting a weight, which only works on a specific muscle group on a limited way, pole dancing works all of the muscles at once in a dynamic and challenging way. Not to mention, it is also a superb cardio exercise which will help to burn fat and further define those toned muscles.
If you want a lean, strong, toned body leave the heavy barbells to the guys and grab onto the pole instead!

The 2012 British Isles Pole Dance Championships

The best pole dancers from all over the United Kingdom will be gathering in Essex on October 20th to show off their twisting acrobatic moves at the British Isles Pole Dancing Championships.
This fantastic event is now in its fourth year and is open to pole dancers of all levels from Amateur to Professional to Champion. The final competition will be held in the Civic Hall on Blackshots Lane in Grays, Essex. Any pole dance school throughout Britain is invited to enter their pole dancers in the competition.
Also at this event, our very own Sian will be speaking on the main stage about the power of pole dancing for improving self esteem. She will also be teaming up with Pantera Blacksmith, the “World’s Most Famous Pole Dancer” and seeing what kind of fun they can get up to.
The aim of the championships is to promote pole dancing as a fun and exciting form of fitness and to recognize pole dancers for their talent and skill as athletes and performing artists.
